My love for genealogy began in 1997. A friend was working on building her family tree and I found it absolutely fascinating. I ask her to show me how to get started building my own tree. Very quickly I realized how lopsided my tree was. My mother never knew her biological father and by that time, almost everyone on that side of the family was no longer living (including my mother), so I had very few people to talk to about it. And so began a twenty year journey looking for this mysterious man. During that twenty years of searching, I developed skills, took classes and spent many many hours in libraries pouring over microfilm, census records, books, etc.. Eventually, the world wide web came into play, but those first several years of library legwork became the foundation of my genealogical education.
I now use those skills to teach and help others build their family trees. Currently, I am the assistant librarian and genealogy director for our local library and also serve on the board of directors for our county museum. I enjoy helping others discover and uncover their roots. My primary focus is early colonial, the southern states and Texas (especially Limestone County).
